At the heart of the Watch D2 is its revolutionary blood pressure monitoring system. Unlike competitors that rely on optical sensors, Huawei’s approach uses a built-in micropump and inflatable wrist strap, mimicking traditional blood pressure cuffs for enhanced accuracy. The standout feature, however, is the watch’s Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM), enabling round-the-clock tracking – a first in the smartwatch world.

What sets the Watch D2 apart is its medical-grade certification. The device has received approval from both China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and the European Union’s Medical Device Regulation (MDR) body for its blood pressure monitoring capabilities. This certification lends credibility to Huawei’s claims of accuracy and reliability.

Beyond blood pressure, the Watch D2 is a comprehensive health companion. It offers ECG analysis, SpO2 monitoring, heart rate tracking, stress level assessment, and skin temperature readings. A new “Health Overview” feature allows users to measure nine body indicators with a single tap, providing a holistic view of their well-being.

Aesthetically, the Watch D2 has received a significant upgrade. The 1.82-inch AMOLED display with a 2.5D floating design gives it a more premium look compared to its predecessor. Available in Black and Gold, with options for a fluoroelastomer or cream leather strap, the watch caters to both fitness enthusiasts and style-conscious users.

Despite its advanced features, Huawei has managed to keep the price competitive. The Watch D2 launches in Europe at €399 (roughly $444), matching the price point of its predecessor. Early adopters can also snag a pair of Huawei FreeBuds 5i as a bonus with their purchase.

While the Watch D2 represents a significant leap in wearable health technology, it’s worth noting that Huawei’s limited ecosystem and absence from the U.S. market may hinder its wider adoption. Nevertheless, for those seeking cutting-edge health monitoring in a stylish package, the Huawei Watch D2 sets a new benchmark in the smartwatch arena.

As major players like Apple continue to work on integrating similar technologies into their devices, Huawei’s Watch D2 stands as a testament to what’s possible in the realm of wearable health tech. It may just be the watch to beat in 2024 for health-conscious consumers willing to step outside the mainstream.
